Software Description
Monkey's Audio is a fast and easy way to compress digital audio (WAV files). Unlike lossy methods (MP3, MP2, lqt, etc.) that apply psychoacoustics to filter out information, Monkey's Audio only operates losslessly, thus preserving the full audio quality. Lossless compression has several key advantages. For starters, it maintains the full quality of the music, so that reproduction is always perfect! Secondly, it can compress and decompress files much more quickly than lossy methods. This means less CPU consumption during playback, and a whole lot less time archiving your music collection. Finally, lossless compression allows for an infinite number of compress and decompress cycles without any loss of quality. That way, if new technology is ever developed, you don't have to spend the time recopying your whole music collection.
Features:
- Fast – significantly faster than competing lossless compressors (can process most albums in under 3 minutes on a 500 Celeron)
- Great compression – compression is +- 1% of the highest lossless compression available
- Winamp™ and Media Jukebox™ support – plays (with seeking) in both Winamp™ and Media Jukebox™
- Easy – the Windows environment interface is both powerful and easy to use
- Free – Monkey’s Audio is completely free!
- Error proof – Monkey’s Audio incorporates CRC’s to ensure proper decompression of data (errors don’t go unnoticed)
- Tagging support – Monkey’s Audio fully supports the popular ID3 tags used on MP3s, so existing software can manage and catalogue your Monkey’s Audio collection
- External coder support - you can use Monkey's Audio as a front-end for all of your encoding needs
