Software Description
AudioCrusher is a freeware CD Ripper with complete ID3v1 support and lots of other features like CDDB support, automatic playlist generation and more.
Some features:
- Direct CD ripping, no intermediate files for encoding necessary
- CDDB support
- Supported formats: RAW, WAV, MP3 and WMA, more formats are available through the Audio Compression Manager interface
- Automatic play list creation with extended play list information
- SFV-checksum file creation
- Full customisable ID3v1 tag support for each track
- Filenames are fully customisable
- Supports a wide range of CD-ROM drives
In this version: Propably the biggest new features in this release are the newly introduced command line encoder interface and the normalization feature. As for output formats, this release is also a great improvement: Support for Ogg Vorbis through A. Key's vorb_enc.dll has been added, along with great improvements for the Windows Media Audio support and of course the command line encoders support. This release is also (hopefully) more stable. Remaining top-priority features on the ToDo list are still freedb submission and support for more CD drives, especially on Windows NT/2000.

audiocrusher rocks!
after downloading tons of cd rippers that required me to pay money so it would actually work, the audo crusher works great and it's free. very easy to use, highly recommended. it knew what cd i put in to be ripped along with the genre and everything which struck me as cool too. creates good-sounding mp3s. thanks to whoever made this free.
AudioCrusher - some notes
Firstly, this is good stuff. A basic, functional front-end with a flexible multi-format engine. A couple of observations on version 1.2 on Windows 2000 tho';
1. It does not ship with an MP3 decoder, and it will promt you to download one for free. Although it recommends the Ogg Vobis, get the LAME one instead - its much better.
2. The directory path configuration is bizarre. e.g. Slash and backslash are illegal characters, so you must either sit your files in the C: root, or manually override the destination every time.
3. A band or album title with three dots in a row (e.g. Aslan - Waiting for this madness to end...) will cause an empty, corrupt subdirectory to exist. I re-ripped this album and manually removed the three dots from the firectory name, and it all ripped fine. I just cannot seem ot get rid of the corrupt directory tho'.
4. When offered multiple FreeDB listings for an album, picking 'the wrong one' will crash AdioCrusher completely. I'm not sure what the difference between a good or bad entry is.
5. You will need to download and install an ASPI driver. The one recommended is a dead link. I have a Dell Inspiron 2500 laptop, and I successfully used the Nero driver from http://www.nu2.nu/aspi/.
I'm sure there will be other issues, and I'll post them here as and when I find them, but for now, I'd recommend this completely free software for your very basic 'cut out and keep' rippng.
