Build a catalog with the CDDB
A lot of MP3 software which allows you to rip tracks and set up playlists can retrieve CD information such as track names, album title and artist from a CDDB server. Quite often this is done automatically when you put your CD in your CD-ROM drive.

CDDB is an invaluable resource for administering large CD collections. The the new CDDB2 enhancement to the CDDB Service provides extended information such as album and track-by-track credits, genres and web-links. Album art is not included in the database.

What is really interesting about the CDDB is that it reflects, to some extent, the music tastes of the online audience. Over 24 million people use the Gracenote CDDB® Music Recognition Service. Current Top ten artists include Dido, Eminem, The Beatles, 2pac, U2 and Creed.

One popular download which uses the CDDB is MusicMatch Jukebox.
