DAO is the acronym for 'Disc-At-Once'. by Bella Tu

What is DAO?
This is a method of recording to CD in which the disc is written all at once without interruption and without the recording laser turning off. It is generally considered the "professional" way of recording a CD. Best of all, DAO allows you to record separate tracks onto CD without the audible gap between each track. This makes DAO recording ideal for splitting your long WAV mixes into smaller segments and burning each segment as a track on the CD.

CD Burning software supporting DAO recording:

Linux -

Disadvantages of DAO:
Cannot record directly from multiple source audio CDs - all the audio to be recorded must be available from a single CD source or the hard disk. The disc can be written only once.
