I have taken one back because it keeps freezing up during USB use. I brought a second one home last night and this one has a smeared gray readout and it won't let me format. Tech support is a joke also. I am extremely frustrated with this product. I had the same exact problems that you had also with the computer not recognizing the unit, the drivers, etc. It's making me nuts.
