Oh boy... where to begin... Windows Media Player is crap. Don't use it. Period. To make a CD that will play on any stereo, you're limited to 74 or 80 minutes, depending on the CD-R you're using. The reason for this is that music CD's are written in a format called Compact Disc Digital Audio (CDDA), which is 44kHz/16-bit/stereo, which makes it 1411kbps. A typical CD-player is only capable of playing CDDA. MP3 is something totally different. It's structured completely differently, and is typically at 128kbps. Only PC's and players which boast the ability to play MP3 can play MP3's. If you want to put 100+ songs on a CD, you can do it in MP3, by burning the MP3's as a data CD in any proper burning program like EasyCD or Nero. But you'll only be able to listen to this CD on a computer, on an MP3-CD player, and most newer model DVD players.
