The hardware you will need is a Y-cable that will connect at one end to the output of your stereo to which the turntable is attached, and at the other end to the computer's soundcard.
Just go to your local Radio Shack and tell the guy what you're planning to do and he'll show you the right cable.

The software I'd recommend for the job is AIPL Singulator.
