That's odd, that it sounds better than Winamp. In Winamp (when you're not playing a song), hold Ctrl and press P. Go to the output plug-ins menu. If WaveOut is selected and you're not satisfied with the sound quality, then try selecting DirectSound and closing the menu or vice versa.
