Unfortunately, MusicMatch always does use a lot of memory, because it's a very badly written program. Its memory-hogging is partly due to the fact that it has everything an amateur music lover wants all in ONE program.
I haven't used MusicMatch in a long time, but if they've moved on from Gracenote CDDB to FreeDB, it's because of their licensing costs. You won't be able to use Gracenote CDDB with your MusicMatch anymore.
Don't call FreeDB rubbish. Both CDDB and FreeDB aren't magic. They work by users typing and submitting the info of their CD's, which is stored in a database for other people to look up in a program like MusicMatch.
If you complain about the database but never add to it, then you're somewhat of a hypocrite.
If you'd like to rip, play and burn your music while using less memory, I suggest you use the best dedicated programs for those tasks.
