I know exactly what u mean dude, i cant stand that... the only way i can think of to find a good bitrate is listening carefully, using speakers with good fidelity. Because of the unique characteristics of music, a program that detects encoding quality without looking at the actual bitrate number would be next to impossible to create. but keep your eye open and who knows... if you have any audio technical questions feel free to email me...

: I'm looking for a program that can detect re-encoded mp3's. I use overnet and lately a lot of BONEHEADS have been collecting an entire album of poorly encoded mp3's, re-encoding them at a high bitrate, and zipping or rarring them into a "high bitrate" package. SO ANNOYING! You can tell because the sound quality sucks butt. Does anyone know of a program that can detect the original quality that an mp3 was encoded in? I would really appreciate it. Thanks!
