I already paid about $40 to ship the last crappy unit which died from click of death disease (remember zip disks, anyone?) and don't want to sink any more money into this. Will removing the battery help? How do you do this? : : You can remove the battery by firmly pressing on the classic logo and pulling out. However, this does not help. I have the same problem you have and I've tried everything to fix it. The index always reads 171 tracks too, maybe the problem is related.
