In Reply to: how do I take the music out of an mp3 and keep only the lyrics (the singing)? posted by bigmarc on July 28, 2003 at 19:14:30:
There are some Winamp plug-in which can do this on playback. But I feel I should warn you... there is no good way to remove music from vocals or vice-versa, especially from an MP3 rather than a WAV. You probably won't enjoy what you hear... in fact, the music won't be entirely removed. This is due to the following: a) A CD consists of a single stereo signal which includes both the vocals and instruments, meaning that the two of them would have to be separated on the basis of sound frequencies. b) Such a removal of frequencies is something that a computer is incapable of doing with any accuracy, since the frequencies that the vocals and instruments occupy vary constantly., so a computer program is only able to choose a specific group of frequencies and eliminate them and leave the user to hope that they're the right ones.
