Loading mp3s to RCA Lyra 1071

When I download mp3s, I can't use the remaining 32mb of the 128 mb on the Lyra. I have Windows XP OS. RCA says the format is function is bad on my unit, but I exchanged it and the same thing happens. Any suggestions?
