Check out the files that it skips... 1) Are they variable bitrate? You can tell this in a software player by a fluctuating bitrate display, or by the details of the MP3 including "VBR" somewhere. 2) Is the sampling rate under 44kHz? Some MP3 players only support MPEG 1 Layer 3, and not MPEG 1.5 layer 3 or MPEG2 layer 3. v2 and v3 are the ones used for <44kHz sampling. 3) Is the bitrate under 96kbps? Is it under 32kbps? Some players only play files of a certain bitrate or higher (and in some cases only up to a certain bitrate). Take for example the MpTrip. It can only play 96-192kbps. You can always return the player, I hope... ? You might want to look into getting a RioVolt or an iRiver.
