Can somebody explain why mp3-cd players cannot read variable mp3?

Hi!
I just have bought new mp3 cd player(Panasonic CT800), and its great.But for some reason it skips some songs,or tries to read and then quits.I've been told that its because of variable rate mp3.
Is there a solution to this problem ? Is it possible to convert these songs somehow?
