Actually, they can be any way you want them because MP3-CD's are nothing but data-CD's.

Some players are fussy about accepting certain filenames or burning modes. Some players have the capability to play a playlist, others ignore them entirely. Some players will play all files in alphanumerical order no matter what, others may play files almost randomly if the CD was burned in a certain mode.

If you want an MP3-CD that plays in proper order on pretty much any "MP3-compatible" player you can find, the best way to do it is probably to rename them so their in the alphanumerical order you want, and then burn as a data-CD in Mode 1.

Playlists are not necessary, but for a multi-album MP3-CD they can be convenient.
