How much is that Chiwawa on the window? Influences: Alcohol, Jesus, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Blondie, Ella Fitzgerald, Edith Piaf, Bugs Bunny, Salvador Dali, Chagall… References: Garbage, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Chemical Brothers, Portishead Description: Alternative Pop Mainstream Futurists! Chiwawa is a duo - Laurie Gordon and Krassy Halatchev. They work with guest musicians and like to experiment in their songwriting. It is a constantly evolving style and therefore pretty much impossible to label. The Chiwawa sound is simply Chiwawa. The band has performed in and around Montreal and New York City at clubs such as CBGB’s and Arlene Grocery. On stage, Chiwawa multiplies from a duo to a pack of wolves. Its sound is a combination of electric, acoustic, and digital ambiance that seduces the listener into imagining a tasty Toblerone and Hagen Daz ice cream after blowin’ a big fat doobie! History: Chiwawa has been in existence for 5 years. They recorded their debut album, The Sick World Of Yona in Montreal and mixed it in Bristol England. The producer was Steve Whitfield who works with many artists and bands including the Cure. Chiwawa is currently finishing their next album which is to be released in the fall 2000. The band has received very good reviews from the media. They own and operate their own record label Satellite Records Canada and are strong believers in the internet as a powerful medium in which to promote fresh talent & music. They may well be the quintessential independent band.
