Audiowreck formed in early 97’, after Nathan Quinn had departed from a local London, Ontario band he had been fronting. He hooked up with long-time friend and producer Roy Silveira (Salmonblaster, Gandharvas). The two were looking to create music that was emotional and edgy, while still retaining good pop music sensibility. They worked with numerous local musicians developing the bands style and sound.

It wasn’t until they teamed up with Toronto musician Steve Kostrey, that the true shape of things to come took form. After doing some initial writing and recording, Nathan and Roy felt so good about their partnership with Steve that they decided to move to Toronto, so that the three could devote more time to the group.

Since the move in 2000, Audiowreck have been busy building their own studio (food.air.water.music studios) and honing their song writing skills. The band has also spent the last two years recording the demos that they will be shopping to labels sometime this year. Audiowreck have also had the honour of adding Matt Kentner (the New Grand) on bass, to the line-up.

2001/02 has seen the band embark on playing live. Audiowreck just played a sold out fall show at The El Macombo, a week before its closing. In a recent radio interview the group said, “I guess we’re kind of backwards in that way. For a relatively unknown band we have the luxury of being able to sit in a studio and work on a song. Instead of going into a rehearsal space and hashing something out in an evening, we spend a couple of weeks building and piecing it together. So when it comes to playing live we’re trying to perform something we’ve finished, instead of the other way around. It’s just the way we feel most comfortable doing things. We just want every aspect of this group to sound good, look good and feel good and when we go to play live, we just feel more confident when we know how the finished song should sound.” In early 2002 Audiowreck will also be completing the group’s line-up with the addition of a permanent drummer. Up till now they have been using a number of session drummers, most recently Richard Brown who has had to depart, to fulfill prior commitments with Edwin and Wave. The first part of this year the band will be widening it’s fast growing fan base by performing a bunch of scheduled shows around Ontario and Canada. For full concert listings go to audiowreck.com.

INFLUENCES:
In an interview on Ryerson Radio CKLN, Nathan was quoted as saying this, "In the past few years I think we have had a hard time putting a finger on things like influences. For one, we individually have so many and they are all so varied, from music, to art, to authors. Also, as you grow older so many other things other than just music and art start to play a roll in shaping who you are, and inevitably what you create. Somewhere along the line you stop wanting to be U2 or Radiohead or The Smiths, and start wanting a real voice of your own. Obviously there are bands out there that have an impact on what we do; I personally feel it just becomes more of a subconscious thing instead of something you wear on your sleeve. The most influential forces on this band are the members that play in this band. With all of us having such vast differences in our own personal backgrounds, that when we come together and each throws his two cents into the creative pot, you can only hope that what comes out is something unique and honest."
